3 Lashkar terrorists shot dead in JandK’s Kupwara, infiltration attempt foiled
Three terrorists from the Pakistan-based LashkareTaiba (LeT) team were neutralized in an encounter that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday morning, Kashmir territorial police said. Police launched an operation after receiving concrete information about an attempted terrorist entry into the village of Jumagund in Kupwara. The encounter began when the infiltrated terrorists were intercepted by the army and police.
“Based on a specific post by #KupwaraPolice regarding the attempted infiltration of #terrorists into Jumagund village, Kupwara, an #encounter started when the infiltrated terrorists were intercepted by #army and #police,” Kashmir Regional Police tweeted.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar gave an update on the encounter saying that the three terrorists linked to the illegal terrorist organization LeT have been killed and their identities are being verified. Kumar added that incriminating material, including weapons and ammunition, had been seized by the terrorists.
The encounter comes a day after LeT terrorists shot and killed a TV artist who had uploaded her songs to various social media platforms. His 10-year-old nephew, who was also at home, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. On Tuesday, the Resistance Front (TRF), a local branch of the LeT based in Pakistan, killed an off-duty JandK police officer, Saifullah Qadri, in front of his nine-year-old daughter in Anchar Soura in Srinagar, sparking intense resentment in the region. Police said the girl was trying to save her father when militants opened fire on her. He sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and is said to be in stable condition.
