India reports 7,240 new Covid cases, up nearly 40% for second day in a row
India’s daily coronavirus cases topped 5,000 cases in 94 days (it reported 5,233 cases today past), bringing the total number of active cases to 32,498, Ministry of Health Union.
According to the government, the country has 3,641 active cases of the virus. 4,444 deaths rose to 5,24,723 with eight new deaths, according to updated government data as of 8am. India has reported 4.31 crores of Covid cases since the start of the pandemic.
On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 2,701 new cases, the highest number of infections since January 25. At least 42% of infections have been reported in Mumbai. Western State has reported a case of variant B.A.5.
India’s COVID19 tally passed the 200,000 mark on Aug 7, 2020, 30,000 on Aug 23, 40,000 on Sep 5 and 500,000 on Sep 16. It crossed lakhs on on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and crossed the unmarked mark on December 19.
Kerala has reported 2,271 new cases in the last 24 hours. The southern state reported 10,805 new infections in a week.
