Nitin Gadkari, India’s transport minister, said on Thursday that he aims to “bring in a new rule” that will reward anyone who takes and shares photos of improperly parked automobiles with Rs500.

“If a person gets fined Rs1,000 for wrong parking, then Rs500 from that amount would go to the one who takes the picture,” he remarked, laughing with the crowd at the Industrial Decarbonization Summit 2022, held at a hotel in Delhi.
It was not immediately obvious whether the minister’s statement was backed up by a legal framework.

He made the remark after stating that improper parking is a “major threat” in urban India because the number of cars is increasing. “Sometimes there are cars for each family member.” However, no one is constructing parking places. “Wide highways are being regarded as parking places in Delhi, for example,” Mr Gadkari remarked.

He claimed that his Nagpur home had parking for 12 automobiles and that he never parks on the road.

On his YouTube account, he posted a video of his summit speech.

He described electric vehicles as “vital” for India’s public transportation. “In the United States, even sanitation workers have cars… India appears to be heading in the same direction.”Everyone is purchasing automobiles,” he remarked.

After a sharp drop in numbers due to the Covid epidemic, car sales in India have recently risen.

When compared to the low statistics in the Covid-affected May of 2021, passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers in India increased by more than twofold in May 2022.
