Jasprit Bumrah Breaks New India Wickets Record In England Series
The record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler during a Test series in England has been broken by acting captain Jasprit Bumrah. He took 21 wickets in a five-match run that began last year with his haul of 3-68 at Edgbaston, which included all of England’s top three batsmen.
That broke Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record, which he set in 2014 during a five-match series, of 19 wickets.
And during England’s second innings in Birmingham, Bumrah, who is captaining India in place of Rohit Sharma, should have the opportunity to increase his total.
Despite the fact that India has a history of producing excellent spin bowlers, only leg-spinner Subhash Gupte, who amassed a five-match series high of 17 wickets in 1959, can be found in the top five of a list that is dominated by contemporary quick bowlers.
India’s bowlers took the most wickets in a Test series against England (by player, season, number of games, number of wickets, average, and average runs per over):
Jasprit Bumrah 2021/22 5 21 21.09 2.60
Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2014 5 19 26.63 2.92
Zaheer Khan 2007 3 18 20.33 2.68
Ishant Sharma 2018 5 18 24.27 2.89
Subhash Gupte 1959 5 17 34.64 2.94
