Samsung is the market leader in India’s tablet market, accounting for 40% of shipments in the first quarter of 2022.
According to market research firm International Data Corp.’s (IDC) worldwide quarterly PC devices tracker Q1 22, Samsung was the number one tablet brand in India in terms of shipments during the first quarter (January-March) of 2022.
During the quarter, the South Korean company accounted for 40% of tablet shipping volumes in India, up 10% sequentially. According to IDC, the total number of tablets supplied across all brands during the quarter was close to 1.5 million.
On the heels of new launches in the Galaxy Tab S8 series, Samsung saw 8.3 percent sequential increase in the premium segment ($500 and up).
The Galaxy Tab S8 series, particularly the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Tab A8 series, according to Sandeep Poswal, business head, Samsung India’s New Computing Business.”Our broad channel presence, device availability across price classes, and consumer-friendly activities helped us consolidate our position,” Poswal added.
Samsung has also introduced financing options in order to lower the cost of ownership and attract more customers. For example, the Samsung Finance+ plan offers low-interest EMIs to buyers with no credit history. Buyers can also swap their old smartphones or tablets for a new Galaxy tablet under the Samsung Upgrade programme.
A significant demand for laptops and tablets has resulted from the pandemic-driven trend to mixed work and online study. According to a May analysis by CyberMedia Research (CMR), tablet shipments in India increased by 68 percent year over year (YoY) in the March quarter, while 4G tablets increased by 74 percent YoY.
Persistence with hybrid or remote work, according to Menka Kumari, analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG) at CMR, is continuing to propel the growth of tablets for work, e-learning, and content consumption use cases.
